jameson annex
The G. Norton Jameson Annex opened in February 1993, as a secure unit adjacent to the main building of the South Dakota State Penitentiary.
The Jameson Annex contains three housing units within a secure perimeter, Unit A, Unit B and Unit D. These units are utilized for maximum custody inmates and as a disciplinary segregation unit. Also located in the Jameson Annex are the Admissions and Orientation Unit for new inmates entering the South Dakota Department of Corrections and the Mental Health Unit. There is a Community Work Center located outside the perimeter fence of the Jameson Annex for minimum-security inmates on work release and community service status and for parolees in the Community Transition Program. That unit also opened in February 1993.
Inmates housed in the Jameson Annex are offered literacy, ABE and GED classes.
The Annex is named for G. Norton Jameson, who served as Warden of the Penitentiary from 1938 to 1963.
The state Department of Health provides medical, dental and optometric services for the adult corrections system. Correctional Health
The state Department of Social Services provides mental health and chemical dependency services. Correctional Behavioral Health
Treatment is also offered for sex offenders.

Video Visitation is now offered, but must be pre-scheduled. Video visitation registration and scheduling
Please be advised that visits may be delayed, suspended or cancelled because of security issues and some visitation schedules may be changed due to special activities or Parole Board hearings at certain times on certain days of the week. For example, no visits are held at the Jameson Annex to the Penitentiary on Monday and Wednesday of Parole Board week, usually the third week of each month. However, evening visits are allowed on those days. If you are traveling from out of town, you can call the facility control room to verify the visit schedules.
